Super Mario Galaxy Bedroom for Little Astronauts

Cobalt night · neon glow · star yellow

A galaxy-themed kids' bedroom inspired by Super Mario Galaxy. Bunk beds tucked under a starry tent canopy, a rocket-ship playhouse, neon Star and Piranha Plant signs, and a Question Block lamp that lights up after dark. Tap the sun/moon toggle to flip the lights from sunny play space to glowing aurora night.

A bright cobalt-blue Super Mario Galaxy themed kids' bedroom with bunk beds, Mario-printed bedding, a starry tent canopy over the top bunk, a rocket-ship playhouse on a striped rug, a Question Block lamp on a side table, neon Star and Piranha Plant wall signs, two yellow round pouffes, and a small projector. Daylight streams through the window. The same Super Mario Galaxy bedroom at night with the lights off. A purple-and-teal aurora projection swirls across the ceiling, calling up the cosmic levels of the actual game. The neon Star and Piranha Plant signs glow brightly. The Question Block lamp is illuminated yellow. Cushions, rocket, and pouffes are silhouettes lit by the neon glow.

Designer's notes

Two rooms in one. By day, the cobalt walls and yellow accents read as a cheerful Super Mario Galaxy themed playroom; by night, the same room transforms. The neon Star and Piranha Plant glow brighter than anything else in the room, the Question Block lamp lights up like a beacon, and a swirling aurora projection takes over the ceiling, calling up the cosmic levels of the actual game. Tap the sun/moon toggle in the corner to flip the lights and watch the room change.

The trick to a themed kids' room that reads as design and not toy-store is committing to one strong base colour and keeping the rest of the palette tight. Here cobalt blue does the heavy lifting on the walls, then it's just wood, white, and pops of saturated yellow and red. The Mario pieces (rocket, bedding, neon signs, Question Block) work because they're the only loud elements in the room. Switch them out and the bones of the room would still hold up.

The neon signs are the secret weapon. By day they're decor; by night they become primary light sources alongside the lit-up Question Block. Choosing pieces that look good both on and off is what makes the day/night switch feel intentional rather than a gimmick. If you're recreating this room, prioritise the lit pieces over the merely-decorative ones.

Tap any dot in the scene above to grab the exact item, in either lighting mode. Every piece here is officially licensed Nintendo merchandise on Amazon, paired with a few quietly-scaled IKEA staples.
